Often, humans will reimagine or re-contextualize experiences that we’ve gone through in order to cope with them. By turning life into a mythology, narrative, or fantastical image, it becomes easier to process and understand. My work uses aspects of Finnish mythology and religious imagery and combines them with personal history. The irregular canvas shapes further distort the perspective, adding layers of extra context to the paintings, and forcing different relationships with the images that are presented. My hope is that viewers of the paintings can read and use their own concepts of self, personal history, memories, and identity, and relate them to the images that are presented.
