Beck Leong, Just a weird hallway dream, 2023. 120 gsm mirror vinyl, 240 x 165cm

My work focuses on the interpretations and visualizations of other people's dreams. The way the mirror vinyl is viewed is impacted by the change of light and perspective as the audience approaches it. Without a frame and mounted directly to a wall, the border is limited only to the surface it’s placed on.
The dreams collected from friends and family are specifically not nightmares, just cobblings of a subconscious mind that manifest into a vision.
As you stare into the reflection of something foreign, what do you see?
By removing the dreams from the context of the dreamer and placed into a new environment to be viewed by an audience of strangers, viewers are invited to create their own meaning from how they view the work. One that may not align with what I nor the original dreamer intended, but something new entirely, to alienate and become the audience's own.
